Die Hälfte der Protagonisten sind Frauen“, unterstreicht Vojta. „Dabei war uns gar nicht klar, wie viele Kommunikationstalente im Exzellenzcluster schlummern.“ Herausfordernd war jedoch, die quantenphysikalischen Ansätze in videotauglicher Kürze unterhaltsam zu erklären. QUANTube was designed with the theme of Science Year 2022 in mind, which was all about responding to inquiring minds. “We focused on the players’ inquisitiveness and went to great lengths to ensure our videos were comprehensible and used appropriate language for the young target group,” says Dresden cluster spokesperson Matthias Vojta. The goals are to arouse interest in STEM subjects, especially physics, and to point out relevant study and career options. “We’ve received 2,000 questions. We’re thrilled by our viewers’ curiosity!” adds Würzburg cluster spokesperson Ralph Claessen. ct.qmat’s talented video presenters: Each episode of QUANTube also shines a light on what young researchers at ct.qmat and its partner institutions are working on. “When choosing the presenters, we mainly went for young researchers who were representative of ct.qmat’s diverse international demographic. Half the presenters are female,” says Vojta. “We’d never dreamed how many talented presenters we had here!” One challenging aspect was to explain the approaches taken in quantum physics in a suitably concise, entertaining manner. Says Claessen: “This taught us to look at our research activities from a completely new angle.” The videos were released in German and English on YouTube at the end of each month in 2022, and promoted on ct.qmat’s social media channels (Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube).
